Sneaking past the Maoists マオイストから逃れるの巻

It was good weather for rafting. Nils got up very early in the morning to practice rafting with the group. When I saw them I too wanted try rafting. Unfortunately it was too late… We took pictures of Nils rafting. Afterwards we all headed to Kathmandu. I fell asleep on the way. AHH!! Shoot!! I missed seeing the Maoists. They charge US$5 for each foreigner, but we didn’t need pay them because we were with the rafting crew. When Nils traveled from Nepal to Tibet, he paid the Maoist US$5. The Maoist gave Nils a receipt! :-D If he shows the receipt to them, he doesn’t have to pay them again.
We arrived in Kathmandu safely in the evening.

ラフティングにはもってこいのいい天気！
Nilsは早起きして他のグループの人達と一緒に説明を受けて練習をしている。
それを見ていると、だんだん私もラフティングやりたくなってきた。
しまった・・・私も申し込んどけば良かった・・・
私達はNilsのカメラマンとなり、バスに乗り後を追いかけた。
見ているとメチャクチャ楽しそうでもっとラフティングやりたくなった。
ラフティングツアーリスト一行を乗せたバスはカトマンドゥーへ向けて出発。
途中ウトウトしていたら・・・
しまった！見そこなった！
銃を持ったマオイストの検問を見逃してしまったのだ。
いまだに多くのマオイストは山に潜んでいて、外国人から多くのお金を取っている。
このカトマンドゥーへ行く道も、マオイスト出没地としては有名な場所である。
一人当たりUS$5も取るらしい。
しかし私達はラフティングリゾート社のバスに乗っていた為払わなくてもよかったらしい。（ラフティングリゾート社が払うらしい）
ネパールからチベットに来たNilsはここでマオイストにUS$5払って、おまけに領収書までもらっている。(笑)
夕方無事カトマンドゥーに到着！

I HATE immigration!! From our group of 5, the immigration officer asked only me many questions. Nobody else was asked anything! I couldn't understand the immigration officer's English question. I asked him to repeat it many times. Finaly, he gave up and let me pass. Yay! Was my name on the black list? We took bus to go to a river ragting resort.(Nils wanted to try rafting.) The bus was full, so we had to ride up on the bus's roof! It was my first time. In Nepal, it's very common though. The rafting resort was very expencive, but it included a good meal. That night we see so many beautifl stars!!

やっぱりここでも質問が待っていた。

初めてバスの屋根に乗った。
一緒にラサから旅をしているドイツ人の男の子Nilsがラフティングをしたいということで、私達４人も一緒にラフティングリゾートへ行った。
そこはリゾート地でキャンプの宿泊代は高かったけど、ディナーもおいしかったし、それに星がとてもたくさん見えた！

EBC (Everest Base Camp) → Tingri → Zhagmu, エベレストベースキャンプ → ティンリー → ダム

We arrived at Zhangmu, the Chinese border town to Nepal. We finished the our landcruiser tour safely! Thanks driver Nima!! We will go to Nepal tomorrow! Good-bye cold weather, good-bye jackets, good-bye long sleeve shirts!! T-shirts are waiting for us!






チベットとネパールの国境の町ダムへ移動。
ジープでの旅も今日で終わり。
ニマの安全運転で、無地国境に着いた。ありがとうニマ！！
国境の町ダムに着いたのが国境が閉まった後だったので、中国側で一泊。
明日ネパールへ！
今日で、この寒さともお別れ！ダウンジャケット、長袖シャツともオサラバ！！
Tシャツが私達を待っている！！

Shegar → Rongphu Monastery → EBC (Everest base camp), サキャ → ロンボフ寺 → エベレストベースキャンプ

We hiked to EBC (Everest base camp) from the Rongphu Monastery. It tooks 3 hours. It was soooo cold, and even started to snow! We were still a bit sick form the AMS. We were supporse to stay EBC... but it was CLOSED!! :-( Eeeehhh!!! Where can we stay? We had to hike back to Rongphu Monastery! We walked again! After walking another two hours back, our driver picked us up!! Thank you, Nima!!



サキャからエベレストの麓のロンボフ寺まで移動。
トンボフ寺から３時間歩いてエベレストベースキャンプへ。
予定ではエベレストベースキャンプに泊まる予定だったが・・・
な・な・なんとエベレスト閉鎖！！シーズンオフ！！
えーーーーーー！！！どこに泊まればいいの？
夕暮れで日は沈みかかり、おまけに曇り始め雪がチラチラしだした。
風も強くなってきた。
ロンボフ寺までまた戻るしかない・・・
疲れと寒さと標高5200mという辛さで泣きそうになりながら、ロンボフ寺に向かった。
途中で私達のジープの運転手のニマが迎えに来てくれた。ありがとうニマ！！
それにしても、誰もエベレストベースキャンプが閉まっていることを教えてくれないなんて・・・
ロンボフ寺の人、エベレストベースキャンプに行く途中ですれ違った人・・・

We visited Lhatse and Shegar. We met Tibetan girl in a small cafe. She could speak a bit English. We had a good time and enjoyed good milk tea. Martin taught an English sentence to her: "Do you get along with your family?" :-)





今日はシガツェからラツェ、サキャへ移動。
サキャで、古いカフェというかレストランというかそんな感じのところで、チベット人の女の子とたくさん話した。
彼女は少し英語が話せた。
私らも、チベットフレーズブック片手にチベット語を頑張って話した。（笑）
マーティンが彼女に少し英語を教えていた。
その中にあまり使えない英語だけど、彼女は何度も何度も繰り返して覚えていたのが可笑しかった。
それがこの英文→　"Do you get along with your family?"

We visited Shigatse and saw Tashilhunpo Monastery. The monastery contains the tombs of 4th through 10th Panchen Lamas and the world's largest guilded, a 26m imaze of Jampa (Maitreya), the Future Buddha (300kg of gold, fingers each over 1m long).

そこにはパンチェンラマ４世から１０世のお墓があります。
それにしても寒い寒い寒い・・・

A good way to travel through Tibet to Nepal is by landcruiser. We were able to find some people to share a landcruiser to go to Nepal. A landcruiser holds the driver and about4 to 5 passengers comfortably. We were able to find some people who were also going to shere a landcruiser with. The first place we visited was Yamdrok-tso which is one of the four most holy lakes in Tibet. The lake was amazing!! We saw it from the hills above the lake.
The next we visited Gyantse. We went to Pelkor chöde Monastery and saw Gyantse Kumbum, the largest chörten in Tibet.
Everywhere, children are taught to say to forigners "Hello, give me money".

数日前に、泊まっているホステルの掲示板で、ネパールまでランクルで行くメンバーを探しているイギリス人のカップルを見付けた。
早速会いに行き、私達は彼らと一緒に旅することを決めた。
私らの他にドイツ人の男の子の計５人での旅のスタート！！
最初にヤムドク湖に行った。
メチャクチャきれい！！
ただ標高5000mを越す場所だったので、寒いのと少し動くときついのとで長く外に入れなかった。
次にPelkor chöde MonasteryのGyantse Kumbumに行った。（私の持っている日本語のガイドブックには載っていないので、日本語名が分からない・・・）


Everywhere, children are taught to say to forigners "Hello, give me money".

それにしても、どこに行っても子供達が 「Hello, give me money.」って言って寄ってくる。
なんだかいい気はしない・・・

Potala Palace ポタラパレス

Yesterday, we had to get tickets to go to Potala Palace. We were lucky to be able to get tickets, and went to Potala Palace today. Potala is onother UNESCO World heritage site. From Potala Palace the view was amazing. We were not allowed to take pictures of the inside of Potala Palace. It was interesting to see. Potala Palace has the tombs of the 5th to 13th Dalai Lamas. Each one is made with a few hundred kilograms of gold!

ポタラ宮の入場券を入手するのは難しいと聞いていたが、ラッキーなことに前日にゲットできた。
ポタラ宮からの眺めはとても素晴らしかった。
残念ながらポタラ宮殿内の写真撮影は禁止。
宮殿内には、ダライラマ５世から１３世の墓があり、それぞれ数百キロの金が使われている。ポタラ宮の評判はまちまちだけど、私的には興味のあるものだったと思う。

Chengdu → Lhasa 成都 → ラサ

It is our first time to take domestic flight in China. We want to go to Lhasa over land, but there is not enough time.
The sky in Lhasa is very blue! It is totaly different than Beijing and the other big cities in China. At night, we were suffering from AMS (acute mountain sickness). We had headaches. We spent a long time in bed.


今回の旅行初の飛行機での移動。
本当は陸路でローカルバスや列車などで移動したかったけれど、ビザの有効期限の問題等で時間があまりなくなり、空路を選んだ。
チベットのラサは中国側と違って透き通ったキレイな青空だった。
夕方からひどい頭痛に悩まされた。
そう！高山病！！
それもそのはず。成都は標高500m足らず。ラサは富士山より少し低い位の3650m。
この標高差を一気に飛行機で移動してきたのだから・・・
今日はベッドの中にいた時間の方が多かった。

We went to Huanglong (黄龙) today. This place was also amazing. But, still I can’t take any pictures!
There were pretty high mountains. About 3500m mountain. I had headache and dizzy… A Chinese guy there said we were at 4100m…Was that out altitude or our distance from the gate? The park ranges from 1700m to over 5000m in elevation. I had to stop climbing for a while. Now I knew what it feels like to have Acute Mountain Sickness.

今日は黄龍(こうりゅう)に行った。
ここもまたすばらしい所だった。
写真を撮れないのが悔やまれるけど・・・
山を登っていくわけですが・・・なんと標高は約3500ｍ。
頭痛と眩暈・・・。そうです！初めて高山病を体験したのです！
バスの中でも結構辛かった・・・

Yay! Jiuzhaigou”!! It was amazing. Unluckily, my digital camera was broken. And, I was heart broken! Suddenly, it didn’t work. “Lens error”. We couldn’t take amazing photos of the lakes. Ahhhhh…. What could I do…




念願の九寨溝！
それはそれはすばらしかった！
ただ、ある１つのことを除いては・・・
なんと私のデジカメが壊れた！！
・・・あのきれいな湖が撮れなかった・・・
あああぁぁぁ～～～もう悔しい悔しい悲しい悲しい。
砂漠に行った時の砂が影響してるんじゃないかって友達は言うけれど・・・
ああぁぁ～～これからの旅どうしよう・・・

It’s the start of the Chinese National holiday today. It will last one week. We came up with a crazy plan to go to Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟). It took over 13 hours by bus. It was terrible road through the mountains, bad traffic jams, many accidents…
It took a long time to find cheep hotel. Because it’s National holiday now. All hotels were very expensive. About 4-5 times a much as we would usually pay. Luckily, we found hotel that was reasonable price, only 2-3 times what we usually pay. We were sooooooo tired.

今日から１週間中国全体が祝日に入る。
たくさんの人が旅行に出かける・・・民族の大移動！！
そんな中、私達はあの有名な九寨溝に行く計画を立てた。
バスで１３時間以上もかかる長旅だ。
おまけにくねくね山道で、交通渋滞。
極めつけは交通事故多発という難所を通らなければならない。
結局夜の9時頃無事到着。
途中少しバス酔いしたけど・・・。
長距離バスで、疲れ果てている上でのホテル探しは大変だった。運よくそこまで高くないホテルを見付ける事ができた。
